Silver was once
thought more precious than gold. It is referred to as the metal of the
moon and some believe it has powers over emotions, the psychic mind,
love, and healing. Some of its powers include love, psychism, dreams,
peace, protection, travel and money. It is excellent for mental,
emotional, and physical releasing and cleansing. It works on the
mind/emotions to see overview, emotional balance, patience. Like the
moon's energy, it has a gentle, cool, smoothing effect. Thus it reduces
inflammation, fever, nervous system stress. This is a very soft metal,
so it is often mixed with an alloy like copper. The ratio of .925
silver was standardized by King Henry II in the 12th century. He
imported refiners from an area of Germany known as the Easterling.
That's where the word sterling came from. Fine silver is marked .999,
and is 100% pure silver. It is too soft to be used for jewelry.
Sterling silver (.925) is harder, because it is 92.5% silver, and 7.5%
other metals. Coin silver is .900, or 90% silver and 10% copper.

How to choose your ring size |
One way to determine the ring size is to have it sized by a jeweler. This is not always possible or convenient. These are some other ways to determine your size. There is no difference between men's and women's ring sizes. Remember that whatever size you decide on must be able to fit over the knuckle while still fitting snugly and comfortably below it. Very wide bands usually require about 1/2 size larger than your normal size.
This chart is meant to be used as a guide line - please allow for error.
If you don't know your ring size, but already wear a ring, take the ring off and trace aroung the inside, then measure the diameter and compare to the Interior Diameter chart below. If you do not have a ring then follow these steps.
-
Cut a strip of paper about 3/16" wide and about three inches long.
- Carefully wrap it around your finger where the ring will be worn
- With a pencil or pen mark on the paper where it completes the circle around your finger
- Measure the length from the starting end of the paper to the mark. Use a ruler that is accurate to at least 1/16 inch.
- Find the length on the chart below that is nearest the length you measured.
- Your ring size will be found in the column immediately opposite the length you selected. This will be a loose fit unless you pulled the paper tight around your finger before you marked it. If you did not pull the paper tight around your finger, subtract 1/2 of a whole ring size to produce a snug fit.
1 inch = 25.4 millimeters, 1 millimeter = .03937 inches |
