Le Stryge - The Vampire - gargoyle can be seen protecting the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. Gargoyles were not strictly mythical but were invented late in the Middle Ages. They were an extension on the ancient belief that holy buildings should have ugly, threatening stone guardians to keep away evil influences. It was believed that man-made demons could frighten away real demons. 3/4" 3-dimensional. Sterling silver.
