| Witches are sterotypically shown wearing a tall, pointed hat. This dates from the time when the new religon (Christianity) was trying to discredit the Old Religon and make it look undesirable. In the fifteenth century, the tall conical hat was fashionable for the upper classes. It took time, but it eventually became common with the lower classes. One method the Church used to draw away followers of the Old Religon was to depict them in now un-fashionable pointed hats to subtly suggest that the Old Religon itself was out of fashion. Three-dimensional hat charm is 1/2" tall. Sterling silver. |
