The Lupercalia was the feast of the she-wolf. It was a hugely popular purification and fertility ritual clelbrated annually on February 15. Animals were sacrificed and rituals were performed to ensure fertility and easy childbirth. In 494 AD the feast was suppressed by the Pope and renamed the Feast of the Purification of the Virgin Mary. St. Valentine's Day may be a survival of the Lupercalia. 1-3/4" tall x 1-3/4" wide.
